Action for Children and the NC Institute of Medicine have issued the 2011 Child Health Report Card. County-level data on child health is also available. Positive news is that sustained campaigns to reduce cigarette and alcohol use and reduce teen pregnancy are all having a significant effect. Unfortunately, as the report notes, many of the efforts that have contributed to this drop are have already been eliminated or are facing more significant cuts by the GOP in the NC General Assembly. Think of last year’s elimination of the Health and Wellness Trust Fund, cuts to health departments, school cuts and cuts to early childhood programs.
