Position Description

TheGrants Director at NC Child is responsible for helping to meet our strategic funding goals by identifying, securing, and managing grants from private and corporate foundations, as well as government sources. This role will work closely with the Executive Director, Senior Director of Development and Operations, and program staff to drive grant-funded revenue streams that support the mission and priorities of NC Child. The position emphasizes grant research, proposal writing, relationship management, and tracking/reporting grant impact, ensuring comprehensive stewardship and alignment with NC Child’s strategic vision. 

Responsibilities

Grants Development and Management 

  • Manage a Personal Portfolio of Grant Prospects: Research and cultivate relationships with foundation and corporate foundation funders, developing and stewarding a diverse pipeline of grant opportunities. 
  • Coordinate Proposal Development: Lead the preparation, writing, and submission of grant proposals in collaboration with internal stakeholders and community partners, ensuring timely submission and alignment with funding guidelines. 
  • Identify and Qualify New Opportunities: Conduct research to discover and qualify funding sources, leveraging databases, networks, and connections to expand NC Child’s funding reach. 
  • Develop and Maintain Relationships with Funders: Engage and communicate with existing and prospective grant funders, fostering collaborative partnerships and stewarding successful relationships. 
  • Coordinate and Communicate with Staff: Work with program and leadership teams to develop project budgets, measurable outcomes, and programmatic objectives aligned with grant requirements. 
  • Develop and Maintain Grants Library: Establish and maintain a resource library of funder guidelines, templates, and sample grants to streamline proposal development processes. 

 

Grant Reporting and Stewardship 

  • Ensure Accurate and Timely Reporting: Oversee all phases of grant reporting, ensuring NC Child fulfills compliance, programmatic, and financial obligations. Prepare reports in collaboration with program staff and leadership. 
  • Maintain Donor Stewardship Efforts: Collaborate with the Senior Director of Development and Operations to develop a structured grant stewardship program, including thank-you letters, grant impact reports, and recognition strategies for foundation and corporate partners. 

Organizational Leadership and Planning 

  • Support Development Strategy: Play a role in shaping the development strategy in alignment with NC Child’s strategic plan and funding priorities. 
  • Participate in Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engage with program and communications staff to capture grant impact data and convey NC Child’s work in compelling and measurable ways. 
  • Track Grant Impact: Collect data and stories from programs to create narratives that demonstrate impact to funders and the community. 

Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in organizational events, strategic planning sessions, and training programs to stay informed about NC Child’s work, priorities, and funder expectations. 
  • Take on additional duties as needed to support NC Child’s mission and development goals. 

Qualifications and Skills:

Candidates should demonstrate the following required skills and /or traits:

  • Minimum of three years of experience in grants research, proposal writing, and grants management, with a proven track record of successful grants of $100,000 or higher. 
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to interact professionally with foundation and corporate foundation funders. 
  • Exceptional written communication and persuasive writing skills, capable of conveying complex ideas in a compelling manner. 
  • Self-starter with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Proven time-management skills to balance multiple deadlines and priorities. 
  • Proficiency in web-based grant research tools, computer-related office tools, and donor database systems. 
  • Availability to travel as needed to meet with funders throughout North Carolina. 
  • Bachelor’s degree 

Bonus Qualifications:

The followings skills and/or experience are NOT required. However, please let us know if you would bring any of these assets to the organization:

  • Familiarity with child advocacy issues and policies in North Carolina.  
  • Fluency in languages other than English to facilitate communication with diverse donor communities.  
  • Familiarity with nonprofit financial management and budgeting processes.

Position Requirements

The Grants Director is a full-time position (40 hours/week). This position will be required to spend the equivalent of two days each week in the office.

Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent.
Compensation: NC Child offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including 100% employer paid health and dental insurance, paid sick days, vacation, paid family leave, 403(b) Retirement Plan, sabbatical leave, and a commitment to professional development. Learn more about our benefits here. The hiring range for this position is $70,000-82,000 depending on training and experience.
