Position Description
The Marketing and Communications Intern is a skilled communicator interested in multimedia campaigns, social media strategy, and content creation. The Marketing and Communications Intern will play a critical role in helping to grow and engage NC Child’s social media presence. The position is a 3-month internship (approximately 10-15 hours/week). The position is ideal for an undergraduate or graduate student looking to work in communications.
NC Child is committed to centering the voices of lived experience in our advocacy. We do this through our work engaging parents, youth, and advocates. Our goal is to uplift the stories of children and families in North Carolina and to highlight the work of NC Child’s staff (data, research, community engagement, advocacy) on our social media, in our blogs, and throughout other communications content.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the design and execution of NC Child social media campaigns.
- Support the Marketing Manager in the creation of compelling videos and social media graphics in NC Child style and branding.
- Support Communications Director in the development of written communications for NC Child channels.
- Help create and distribute content for release, such as blogs, infographics, videos, and press releases on NC Child social media accounts.
- Assist with tracking social media engagement to identify momentum and reach of digital campaigns.
- Brainstorm and research ideas for original content.
- Help ensure brand message is consistent across platforms.
- Monitor and help support the execution of a monthly editorial calendar for NC Child communication channels.
- Work with Marketing & Communication team to identify unique storytelling opportunities that lift up the people and communities served by NC Child.
- Work with Marketing & Communication team to identify and promote resources that support the needs of the people and communities served by NC Child.
Qualifications and Skills:
Candidates should demonstrate the following required skills and /or traits:
- Currently pursuing an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in marketing, advertising, public relations, communication, journalism, English, or related fields.
- Demonstrated proficiency in using Canva, Adobe Creative Suites, and other graphic design and digital publishing programs.
- Knowledge of AP Style and/or willingness to learn AP Style.
- Demonstrated time management and project management skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of best and emerging practices for branded social media activities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of social media analytics software.

Position Requirements
The Marketing and Communications Intern is envisioned as a hybrid position. While this position is open to being fully remote, the ideal candidate would be able to come into the office in Raleigh a couple of hours per week.
