As a native of rural North Carolina, Erica has a deep understanding of many of the challenges that our children and their families face, from health care to education to child care and financial security. She grew up in Alexander County and attended Appalachian State University, where she received both her BA and MA in Political Science.
As the Executive Director of our partner organization Care4Carolina since 2019, Erica has established herself across the state as a tireless, committed leader who can work with people from every walk of life. She is unwavering in her commitment to serving North Carolina’s families. We are thrilled to have her join the NC Child team.
“I am so excited to join the incredible team of advocates at NC Child to work toward a better future for North Carolina children and their families.,” – Erica Palmer Smith
Erica will officially begin her duties on September 19, 2022. I hope you will join me in extending her a warm welcome. I know you will also join me in a fond and grateful farewell to our outgoing Executive Director, Michelle Hughes. Finally, we wish the very best to our partners at Care 4 Carolina, in our continued work together to close the Coverage Gap in our state.
As we turn the page to a new chapter in NC Child’s leadership, I am incredibly grateful for the hundreds of volunteer hours spent by our dedicated Board of Directors on this search. And thank you to each and every one of you – our partners, supporters, staff members, and friends who support this dynamic and growing organization. Together we are the voice for North Carolina’s children.
