Pitt County had fewer teen pregnancies since 2007, more health insurance coverage and more frequent dental care for children, but have had higher infant mortality rates, dramatically increased incidences of asthma and a high percentage of hunger, according to a report released on Wednesday.
The N.C. 2013 Child Health County Data Card for Pitt County was released by NC Child, an independent statewide nonprofit child advocacy organization, part of a state-by-state effort to track the status of children in the United States.
Since 2007, Pitt County children have experienced improvement in key health indicators, including insurance coverage, dental care, teen pregnancy, child deaths and even high school graduation rates, according to NC Child researchers.
