Inaugural Focus on Children Town Hall Meeting to Be Held in Asheville on October 30, 2012

Leading statewide child data, research and advocacy organization will convene local experts to discuss the well-being of children and youth in Buncombe County

Asheville, NC (October 25, 2012)-Action for Children North Carolina will launch its statewide Focus on Children town hall series in Asheville on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 8:00 am until 9:30 am. Hosted by Action for Children North Carolina board member Linda Fisher Poss of Mission St. Joseph Hospital, the Focus on Children town hall meetings will bring local data about the status of children and youth to communities across the state in an effort to highlight improvements and declines in child well-being and facilitate discussion about strategies to improve the status of children.

Former Action for Children board member Bill Jamieson and Senior Fellow Olson Huff, MD invite you to attend the event.

“Good public policy decisions on behalf of children and youth begin with good data,” said Deborah Bryan, president and CEO of Action for Children North Carolina. “For more than 29 years, Action for Children has partnered with local stakeholders to provide the quality data, analysis and technical assistance that support communities’ efforts to improve measurable outcomes for all children and youth.”

The Buncombe County town hall meeting is sponsored by Action for Children North Carolina in partnership with Children First/Communities In Schools of Buncombe County. The event agenda includes:

  • Welcome by Allison Jordan, Executive Director, Children First/Communities In Schools of Buncombe County and Deborah Bryan, President & CEO, Action for Children North Carolina
  •  Local data report on child well-being presented by Laila A. Bell, Director of Research and Data, Action for Children North Carolina
  • 2013 Legislative session preview presented by Greg Borom, Director of Advocacy, Children First/Communities In Schools of Buncombe County and  Brandy Bynum, Director of Policy and Outreach, Action for Children North Carolina
  • Community discussion led by Greg Borom and Brandy Bynum
