CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If you want to live well into your golden years, consider moving to Watauga County.

A new study shows where you live in North Carolina can affect your life expectancy.

According to the non-profit group N.C. Child, children born in Watauga County can expect to live almost 82 years.

In Mecklenburg County, people are expected to live around 80 years.

Cleveland County has the lowest life expectancy in the Charlotte area, with 73 years.

The statewide average is about 78 years, which is about 6 months shorter than the national average.
