The work we do together for children and families is so important. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, pediatrician, early childhood professional, social worker, or an elected official, together we are creating a future where every child in North Carolina has the opportunity to thrive – no matter their race, ethnicity, or place of birth.
That vision for North Carolina is our inspiration at NC Child. It’s the reason why we get up every morning and fight for what’s right for kids.
You are making a difference, whether you support NC Child as a donor, a volunteer or board member, or an advocate who speaks up for kids with your elected officials. This Thanksgiving week, I want to say THANK YOU for making this important work possible.
How does my donation make a difference for kids and families?
With your support, we’re continuing to make things better for families who are struggling during the pandemic. Here are a few of our accomplishments in 2021:
- We brought parents science-based tools to win mask policies and other COVID safety measures in their school districts;
- We successfully fought for $5.7 billion in federal COVID relief funds to get North Carolina schools, child care centers, and families back on track;
- We pushed Congress for landmark federal legislation to combat child poverty, fund child care, and more;
- We led policy change that protected 30,000 young children from lead in their drinking water;
- We successfully advocated for kids in foster care to get the best health care possible; and
- Together with you and partners across the state, we advocated for a state budget that closes the health care coverage gap and benefits kids and families.
Fighting child poverty in 2022 and beyond
So many families across North Carolina continue to feel the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the Black, Latinx and Indigenous families hit hardest by the crisis. Your support lets us tackle the barriers that stand in kids’ way head on.
You can power our goals for 2022. We are creating a North Carolina where:
- Every child, parent, and caregiver has the health care they need.
- Every child gets the chance to learn in high-quality early care and education programs, and
- Families don’t have to choose between food, housing, education, and health care.

Gratitude and hope for 2022
As 2021 draws to a close, we’re reflecting on another year shaped by incredible challenges for kids and families – systemic racism, a desperate need for affordable health care coverage, the global pandemic, a mental health crisis among children, and child care challenges and staffing shortages. In these deeply uncertain times, I am so grateful for you, and for our passionate community of advocates who keep speaking up for children every single day.
With vaccines for kids 5-11 now in place, and all the momentum we’ve built together in 2021, I’m so hopeful for what we can do together for kids and families in the new year. With your support, I know we can start the new year strong.
