The mothers in your life appreciate the flowers, the hugs, the macaroni picture frames and being taken out to lunch. Moms really do love this stuff!
But what moms need every day of the year is for their communities to support them in caring for their babies when they’re born and throughout their childhoods.
This year, let’s not just think in rosy greeting card sentiments (although your mom will definitely appreciate that card!). Let’s consider what could be done to really make NC mothers feel appreciated. And what is that?
It’s Maternal and Perinatal Care. Mothers need specialized care before, during, and after the birth of their children, and right now not enough of them are getting that care. Closing the healthcare coverage gap can get us there.
It’s Paid Family Leave. It seems like a no brainer – but mothers need time to recover from childbirth and care for their infants. It’s good for them, it’s good for their babies. Yet, most mothers are forced to return to work within days or weeks of giving birth.
It’s Quality Childcare. Mothers need better, more affordable options for childcare.
When mothers are healthy and supported, kids thrive. When kids thrive our whole state does. It’s a win, win, win!
So give your mom lots of love today – but also consider giving to NC Child in her honor or memory to help us fight for family-friendly policies, like affordable child care, in the state legislature.
Join us and give North Carolina moms a reason to smile!
Happy Mother’s Day!
