Resources from the 2025 State of the Child Summit

At this year’s State of the Child Summit, we heard from more than 35 speakers from across our state and beyond.  

We know that having access to the latest information is crucial as we each continue our work in advocating for the children and families that call North Carolina home. Our expert panelists and presenters have shared with us some of the resources they referenced during the Summit!  

NC Child and North Carolina Institute of Medicine Resources  

  • 2025 NC Child Health Report Card
    • The North Carolina Child Health Report Card, published biannually by NC Child and the North Carolina Institute of Medicine, tracks key indicators of child health and well-being in four areas: healthy births, access to care, secure homes and neighborhoods, and health risk factors. 
  • NC Medical Journal 
    • The NC Medical Journal was founded in 1849 by the North Carolina Medical Society. Since 2002, the journal has been co-published by NCIOM and The Duke Endowment. Peer-reviewed articles and letters to the editor are published on a rolling basis, and are read by a wide range of health care professionals, policy makers, government officials, business executives, educators, researchers, and more. 
  • NC Child County Data Cards
    • NC Child’s County Data Cards provide local snapshots of child well-being by county. They also compare county data to children in the state as a whole. County Data Cards  
  • Healthy Communities NC Data Dashboard
    • The Healthy Communities NC Dashboard enables alignment of community data collection and analysis to the Healthy NC 2030 initiative in order to empower shared hypothesis generation, goal setting, and program measurement. Data is provided on the regional, county, House district 
  • Essentials for Childhood Report
    • The updated NCIOM Essentials for Childhood report outlines transformative recommendations and strategies to ensure all children across NC experience safe, stable, nurturing environments and improved health outcomes from birth. Read the report here.

  • Prenatal-to-3 Policy Roadmap- North Carolina 
    • The Prenatal-to-3 State Policy Roadmap guides state leaders on the most effective investments to ensure all children thrive from the start, by identifying evidence-based state policy solutions and tracking the implementation and impact of state investments. 

Feeding Families 

  • CDC Interactive Places Maps 
    • On these maps, you can view and analyze health outcomes, prevention measures, health risk behaviors, disabilities, health status, health-related social needs, and social determinants of health.  
  • School Meals for All  
    • School Meals for All is a coalition of organizations working to make sure that all children are able to access the food they need to grow healthy and strong.

  • Iredell Supply and Demand Study 
    • The Iredell County Partnership for Young Children released a report that detailed the need, cost, and availability of child care in Iredell County.  
  • Child Care Provider Survey Results
    • This one pager covers a high-level overview of the findings from a joint study from the North Carolina Child Care Resource & Referral Council and NC Child.  

Holding Your Breath  

  • Solly’s Law Overview 
    • This one pager from the North Carolina Alliance for Health’s T21 Commission provides an overview of Solly’s Law, which is legislation that would help protect youth from vaping and nicotine.  
  • Intoxicating Cannabis  
    • This fact sheet from the Child Fatality Task Force details legislation that would help protect North Carolina youth from access to intoxicating cannabis. 
  • CFTF Annual Report 
    • This annual report provides a highlight of the work of the Child Fatality Task Force, as well as provides recommendations for changes in law and state funding that address a range of child health and safety issues. 
  • Tobacco 21 Commission Information
