Nearly half of NC children live in households that are struggling to make ends meet. Because our state has a history of public policies that discriminate against families of color, children from Black and Latinx families are twice as likely as white children to face poverty today. But that does not have to be our future.
We can ensure that every child gets a fair shot. Economists are clear on what works to get the next generation out of poverty: strong early childhood programs, great schools, safer neighborhoods, good nutrition, and a strong health care system in place.
